Events
I think events are a hugely important part of PR that are in danger of being overlooked in the rush towards the digital nirvana. People like people. In a world when many of us spend our lives glued to computers and rarely leave our offices is it so surprising that an invitation goes down rather well? We get to meet new people, eat bite-sized food and if we’re really lucky, have a drink! What’s not to love?
A really well organised event, be it business or social in orientation, will last in your audience’s memories for a long time and, done for the right reasons, will help you build strong and lasting relationships and create great coverage in targeted publications.
There isn’t an event we can’t organise. That may sound like a bold boast but it’s true. Read more here about what makes us able to say that. Below are some of the more notable or recent events we have organised:

The Local Business Charity Awards 2014 - 2015 - 2016!
These awards were so huge they get their own page! Please click here to read about them. Thebestof Cheltenham - An evening of Awards and Presentations
The brief was to organise an evening event for Thebestof Cheltenham's clients. I worked closely with the client to plan the event; firstly I had bespoke, brand coloured cup-cakes made that were hand delivered, with an invitation, to each guest. Alongside this I planned the concept of the night, based on the Oscars, and called it 'An evening of awards and presentations'. I worked with a local designer on the artwork for the invitations and for a Charter of Promises that would be revealed on the night. I suggested a booklet be created and given out on the evening to reinforce the Charter of Promises and to lay out a year of training and social events for members. I wrote all the copy for the booklet and suggested selling advertising in the booklet to help cover printing costs. On the night was in attendance all evening, helping to set up, hosting as guests arrived and ensuring general smooth running of the event. I liaised with the photographer to get exactly the photos needed for press and publicity and worked with the videographer, interviewing guests for the video seen below. Following the event a press release was written and sent to the local press and further follow up PR ideas were given. The event was a huge success and the clients were delighted with the outcome, giving them the perfect launch pad to continue to run successful monthly events. |

Breakfast Briefing: In an attempt to educate local business leaders on the very real dangers of information security issues, I organised a breakfast briefing for my client inviting guests from a wide variety of sectors in conjunction with a respected firm of local Solicitors. Power point presentations on the subject of Information Security and the legal considerations surrounding it were given whilst guests enjoyed a continental breakfast.
University Presentation: I organised a presentation on the subject of ‘Facebook Stalking’ for our clients, to coincide with Fresher’s Day at Gloucestershire University. Read the piece that appeared in the Gloucestershire Echo about the event.
War Memorial Inauguration: Whilst working at a previous agency I was given just weeks to help organise the inauguration of a new War Memorial near Bristol. Attended by Her Majesty’s representative the Lord Lieutenant of Gloucestershire and representatives from all four Services the event was hailed as a huge success by the client and is now an annual event. Below are links to coverage of the event. The client approached me to organise the event again in 2013 which I did, with record numbers of attendees.

Research and Development Factory Launch: One of my most challenging events was the organisation of an event in Southern Ireland to mark the opening of a new bomb disposal research and development unit. I organised marquees, catering, photographers and audio visual equipment. I organised all press activities surrounding the event including writing relevant releases and ensuring the correct members of the local and national press were invited and that full media packs were distributed on the day. I flew over before the event to handle the installation of the marquee and acted as event manager on the day. Coverage of the event was achieved on TV and in all relevant Irish newspapers.
